Are You Going To Find Your People At Cruciform? (2021 Conference Update)

Are you going to the Cruciform Conference? It’s happening in Indianapolis, June 3-5, 2021, and yours truly will be speaking at the conference. I’m pumped about this. I have never been a big conference guy; I went to T4G in 2014, and at least one youth conference as a youth pastor. However, since October, 2020, I’ve been to three conferences, and I have to say I am really loving the conference life.

There is something great about a really solid Christian conference. It gives you a chance to meet “your people.” It’s actually a lot like the whole convention experience (yep, I went to a Star Trek convention back in the 90s)—people from all over being brought together by a common interest, for a common experience.

So when Aliza and I went to the Fight Laugh Feast Conference in October, we really got the sense that we had found our tribe. And the same was largely true at Cruciform 2020 (the Think Institute were exhibitors at both, and I was a speaker at Cruciform).

I also found it to be true, in an intensely focused way, when I recently traveled to New Orleans for the Declaring Truth @ Mardi Gras mission and conference, where I spoke twice and learned how to street preach (an incredibly humbling experience).

I don’t know if you have experienced what I’m talking about—the “I’ve found my tribe” moment—but it’s a really powerful phenomenon.

Yes, it only lasts a few days, and then you have to go back to reality, but that’s part of the power of it. You get charged up for three days, encouraged to realize that, although you might be the “crazy Jesus guy” in your day-to-day, there are many other crazy Jesus guys out there, and they’ve got your back. It blows a strong wind in your sails and sends you back into your everyday life with renewed vigor, to represent the Lord Jesus and spread the Gospel unashamedly.

So I am really looking forward to Cruciform this year. I will be going, the Think Institute will have a booth, and I’ll be speaking on Apologetics at the pre-conference on June 3rd.

The conference is an incredible value, especially considering how much my church paid to send me to T4G back in the day. The speaking lineup is outstanding, and it will be a golden opportunity to “find your people.”
