AN IDEA FROM ME

Why should we teach our kids to defend their faith? Because God says to do so. In Deuteronomy 6:6–7 and Ephesians 6:4, God instructs fathers and mothers to talk about His teachings and commands with their children frequently, as we bring up our children in the “discipline and instruction of the Lord.” In 1 Peter 3:15, every believer is exhorted to “honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (emphasis added). So if we are going to teach our children God’s words—and we must do so—then we must teach them to be ready to answer anyone who questions or challenges their Christian hope. 

Apologetics, being the discipline of giving such an answer, is therefore something God wants us to train our children to be able to engage in. In other words, family apologetics is a biblical mandate.
