Sola Scriptura, Love and Discipline, and Manhood Rites-of-Passage

Welcome back to The Think Institute Newsletter. Every Friday, the latest issue is sent out to our approximately 1,000 subscribers (and growing). Each message includes 1 idea from me, 1 quote from someone else, and 1 idea for you to think about.

AN IDEA FROM ME

“Sola Scriptura means that Scripture doesn't need any help from the Pope or the rulers of the Roman Catholic Church, in order to tell us everything we need to follow Jesus. And the Bible doesn't need their permission, either. There is nothing that needs to be added to God's written word, the Bible.”

A QUOTE FROM SOMEBODY ELSE

“A parent ought to provide love and discipline. These two concepts are inseparable in good child rearing. Love without discipline is sentimentality, and discipline without love is tyranny.”

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

In the past, societies welcomed boys into manhood through rite-of-passage challenges and ceremonies. Nowadays, our culture lacks this. Is it something we should bring back? Should there be a Christian coming-of-age ceremony to help boys become men? Let me know what you think.
